Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode(IIMK) was established in 1996 by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Kerala.

IIMK is located at Kozhikode, in south western India, a location made famous by the entry of Vasco Da Gama to India.

The Institute operates from it's own, newly constructed campus, in the scenic ambience of approximately 100 acres in the Kunnamangalam locality of Kozhikode.

IIMK is dedicated to offering world class programmes in management education. Its academic programmes encompass a range of long term full time diploma programmes. The Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in management is designed to rest on three supporting pillars: a proper balance of theory and practice, aligning of courses to match continuously with industry requirements, and an abiding concern for the larger society. A judicious mix of different teaching methods, evolved using feedbacks from students and other programme participants, is employed at the institute. The emphasis is on learning processes and learning outcomes for enhancement of managerial competencies. Problem-solving and analytical skills are honed through case studies, which are part of the pedagogy in most of the courses. The management development programmes offered by the institute provides a link for updating the PGP curriculum so that the students are equipped with the necessary skills to respond to the challenges posed by business and industry.

The post graduate programme also provides direct student links with industry and enhancement of application skills through projects undertaken for industry by students. Participants for this programme are chosen through CAT, Group Discussions and Interviews. The institute has a student exchange programme through which the PGP students get to spend one term in a foreign university and get a first hand experience of business in a foreign nation. The institute is also going to start a faculty exchange programme. Already, IIMK has a tie-up with the Fulbright programme, which is U.S. government's leading international exchange program for scholars, professionals, and students.

The Executive Management Education Programme, the first of its kind to be offered in the Asia Pacific region, is designed exclusively for working professionals. The programme attempts to fulfill the demands of the Indian Corporate for continued training and development of its executive workforce by offering a wide spectrum of courses encompassing all functional areas of management. The Interactive Onsite Learning Component forms the core of eMEP.

Research forms an integral component of the faculty's work at IIM Kozhikode.Faculty members undertake research on a wide range of topics such as InstitutionalAnalysis of Collective Management of Minor Irrigation Works in Kerala, Developing a marketing information portal for selected agri-commodities (of Kerala) in the context of WTO induced market scenarios, Enabled or disabled: The future work relations in Indian ITES Organizations, Development of innovative product development and marketing schemes for handlooms industry in Kannur, Calicut, Palghat and Trichur districts. The Research & Publication Cell of IIM Kozhikode, besides providing administrative assistance that facilitates research related activity in the Institute, also documents the status of research projects and maintains an updated list of faculty and staff publications and presentations.

IIMK is set at a picturesque campus atop Western Ghats. There are different clubs such as the Nature Club, Konnect - the cultural interest group, Debating Club and Quiz Club.

The students also bring out a quarterly magazine, 'Spandan', comprising articles on management related topics.

The students also participate in different activities of the Institute through membership in various committees. Sport is an inseparable part of life at IIMK. The students enthusiastically organize and participate in inter and intra college sports tournaments for cricket, football and tennis. Intra hostel chess, carrom, table tennis and badminton events are regularly organized. Fun trips are also arranged by the students to places of tourist interest in and around Kozhikode/Kerala.

The student community at IIMK is also involved in hosting a number of events and seminars. The seminars are organized by the student interest groups and involve major personalities from the industry as speakers on relevant issues.

Some of the student interest groups at IIMK are Financially Yours - Finance Interest group, AbaKus - Systems interest group, MPower - Marketing interest group, Omega - Operations management interest group, IIC - Industry Interaction Cell, Konsult - the consulting interest group, SSG - Social Services Group and Team Green.

Backwaters, the annual management festival draws participation from a number of top management schools across India.

Horizons, the annual management seminar of IIMK sees executives from top corporates visiting the campus.
